Veracruz!

Today we are in Veracruz! We travelled on a luxury bus from Mexico city and were welcomed by mayores. We ate a typical Veracruz dinner of ceviche! We went sightseeing downtown and saw traditional dancers.

On Sunday we trained girasoles, haditas, guias and parents. The girls loved singing songs all together and we learnt lots about recruitment from the leaders and parents.

In the afternoon we had a session with intermedias y mayores (senior guides) they spoke about motivating others and community action.

The evening was spent at a special ceremony for the mayores to receive awards. We stood by the river in candle light and saw fireflies. We sang songs in Spanish and English, it was very atmospheric and a special time for us all. Following this the guias performed ghost stories and we all sang songs around a campfire.

#failoftheday was that all attendees of our training session became ill. As we were all sleeping over in the same location the toilets became a highly sort after resource. As if things couldn’t get worse the water ran out so there was no running water and no flushing toilets! Luckily the morning came quickly – especially for Steph, Emma and Annabel who were unaffected! And we were picked up and taken to Paty’s house. We have spent the day recovering and planning our next training sessions! We are all feeling a lot better and ready for our next location! Love Gold Team Mexico xx
